The Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church on July 13 announced its decision on the first day of work. In addition to decisions as regards vaccination, Greek bishops, led by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, pressed claims against the two hierarchs who refused to recognize the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

The Synodal Commission on Doctrinal and Canonical Issues of the Greek Human Rights Center, having studied the case of the metropolitans, accused them of “destabilizing unity of the Greek Church with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and challenging his Orthodox privileges.”
The metropolitans of Aitolia and Acarnania, and Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythira were called upon to clarify their position at a regular meeting of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church in August 2021.
In addition, the said metropolitans opposed vaccination, which was contrary to the decision of the Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church, which recommends all faithful to get their coronavirus jabs.
