Czechia expels ROC priest citing security concerns

The representative from the Russian Orthodox Church in the Czech Republic, archpriest Nikolai Lischenyuk, was expelled from the country “over national security concerns”. He is believed to be “a key ally of the Russian Patriarch Kirill” and “leader of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Czech Republic.”

According to local media, the intelligence agencies of the Czech Republic believe that the cleric’s activities “pose a threat to the state.” His residence permit in the Czech Republic was annulled before he was ordered to leave country.

Earlier it was reported that the authorities of the Czech Republic suspect the Russian Orthodox Church of “subversive activities”.

The move underscores the Czech Republic’s vigilance regarding potential security risks associated with foreign nationals. The decision reflects broader geopolitical tensions and heightened scrutiny of Russian influence in Europe.
