SBU presses charges against UOC (MP) cleric in Kharkiv region for glorifying aggressors

The Security Service of Ukraine has documented the subversive activities of a rector of the UOC (MP) church in Kharkiv region.

During the temporary occupation of the region, he supported Russian invaders and “following his own example” called on other local residents to follow suit. However, when the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began in Kharkiv region, the cleric stole the property of the religious community and fled alongside Russian troops, the SBU press service reports.

Soon he and his family settled in the territory of the aggressor country. From there, he recorded a video commentary in which he called Russian aggression against Ukraine “the war of the whole world against the Russian world.”

The pro-Kremlin party of the Russian Federation, United Russia, was one of the first to post the video on its own Telegram channel. Subsequently, the “speech” was picked up by other propaganda media resources of the aggressor power, including the federal TV channels.

The results of the SBU-initiated examination confirmed the facts of the cleric’s criminal activity.

Based on available evidence, the investigators notified the culprit of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine through mass media).

Since the perpetrator is hiding from justice on the territory of Russia, comprehensive measures are underway to hold him accountable for crimes against Ukraine.
