Pope: Praying for the unity of Christians, let us also pray for peace in Ukraine

Pope Francis reminded about the continuing Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, urging to also remember the Ukrainian people in prayers.

    This was reported by vaticannews.va

“These days, when in particular we are praying for complete unity among all Christians, please do not forget to pray for peace for martyred Ukraine. May the Lord console and support this nation, which is suffering a lot. It suffers a lot…” Pope Francis said before saying goodbye to the pilgrims who came to St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Sunday, January 22, 2023, to pray the Angel of the Lord prayer along with him.

As he has been doing for 11 months now, Francis ended his weekly meeting with the faithful with an appeal dedicated to Ukraine.

It should be recalled that January 18 through January 25, the Week of Prayers for Christian Unity is observed. In Ukraine, the event took place in the main cathedral of the UGCC. In Rome, it traditionally ends with an ecumenical service in the St. Paul Basilica, which is presided over by the Bishop of Rome.

This year, the end of this prayer period will be marked by the Ukrainian presence in a special way, as the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations will visit the Vatican on these days.
