Russians tired of Gundyaev’s church – poll

Russians are growing weary of the Russian Orthodox Church, one of the strongholds of the Putin regime.

The church is experiencing a catastrophic drop in the level of trust on the part of ordinary Russians, according to the Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security.

It is recalled that Patriarch Kirill’s church has turned into a mouthpiece of state propaganda, supporting the war on Ukraine. On October 18, the top cleric declared that “Rus’ is the Russian Federation, while Ukraine is part of it, too.”

The share of Russians who recognize the “significant influence” of the Russian Orthodox Church on their lives has fallen to its lowest in more than 10 years. This was shown by a Kremlin-controlled agency VCIOM. The results were published on October 19.

In 2010, one in seven Russians surveyed  (15%) spoke of the “strong” influence of the church, while in 2022 only 9% of shared this opinion. The share of those who recognize the “insignificant” influence of the Russian Orthodox Church has decreased from 36% to 26%, while the majority (55%) generally stated that the church has no influence over their daily life at all.

The decrease in trust in the Russian Orthodox Church is happening even among religious people. The positions of the Russian Orthodox Church undermine the clergy’s attempts to interfere in the life of society and state politics. The share of those who would like to see greater influence of the church on these areas has more than halved in 10 years — from 23% to 12%. At the same time, almost every third Russian (31%) considers the Russian Orthodox Church’s interference in politics to be excessive, although only 19% did so 10 years ago.

So much for the fate of Gundyaev, one of the main ideologues of the “Russian world”. Although, why should it be better than for those who tried to impose this “world” onto Ukraine with Iranian-made kamikaze drones?
