The Hellenic Orthodox Church has reaffirmed that the only canonical head of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine is Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the head of the UOC-MP (ROCinU), Metropolitan Onufriy (Berezovsky), is only a bishop with the ROC in Ukraine.
That’s according to Archimandrite Sofroniy (Chupryna).
“After the recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine by the Churches of Constantinople, Alexandria, Cyprus, and Greece, the name of the OCU Primate, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy, was entered in the Diptychs and calendars of these Churches. Propagandists with the Moscow Patriarchate, taking advantage of a technical error in the Diptych of the Hellenic Church, immediately spread rumors that the Hellenic Church did not recognize the OCU. Indeed, in this year’s Diptychs, the editors have eliminated the error. It is now clearly stated that the Primate of the Ukrainian Church is His Beatitude Epifaniy, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine. In turn, Metropolitan Onufriy is just a bishop with the Russian Orthodox Church who is based in Kyiv. Many summers to the real Primate!” the Archimandrite said.
It should be recalled that on the eve of his Birthday, Metropolitan Epifaniy visited sick children, bringing them gifts. Also, according to opinion polls by the Razumkov Center, Metropolitan Epifaniy is in the lead in the rating of public trust among Ukrainians.
