OCU Primate addresses IX National Prayer Breakfast

On September 8, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine took part in the IX National Prayer Breakfast, which took place in the Ukrainian House in Kyiv.

Opening the event, the head of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine said the Lord’s Prayer “Our Father” and addressed the audience, the OCU press service reports.

“Prayer breakfast is a tradition that allows people of different worldviews, but united by faith in God, to show how special He is in their lives and the life of society as a whole. The right to freedom of religion is one of the fundamental human rights. It includes the right to profess one’s faith publicly and along with others. We do this by coming together to show that faith in God is not something from the past, not a museum piece, but a living and always up-to-date need that can change people and the world around us. Our faith in God motivates us to take a pro-active social and civic position, for the Lord calls us to be witnesses of His Truth before all men. I wish all of us to be such good witnesses. And may God’s blessing be upon us! ”Said Metropolitan Epifaniy.

This year’s National Prayer Breakfast, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, gathered several hundred participants. Among them were members of churches and religious organizations, U.S. congressmen, Ukrainian government officials, MPs, politicians, public figures, scientists, journalists, and representatives of the creative community.
