On February 26, 2022, His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attended a prayer service in the Patriarchal Church of the Holy Trinity where he performed a vigil for the souls of those killed in the ongoing war in Ukraine and all Orthodox Christians who died at the beginning of the century.
This was reported by the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s press service on Facebook.
Patriarch Bartholomew prayed with Archbishop Eugenios of the Church of Crete, Metropolitan Cyril of Ierapetra and Sitia and the newly elected Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, together with the clergy of the Church of Crete, the Archbishops of the Church of Crete, and the Archbishop of Crete.
His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew then received His Eminence the Archbishop of Crete and Metropolitan of Ierapetra and Sitia, as well as the new Metropolitan of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, who asked for and received ahead of his enthronement a holy patriarchal blessing.
The Ecumenical Patriarch congratulated him on his well-deserved election by unanimous vote and wished him good pastoral care.
It should be reminded that days earlier, the Ecumenical Patriarchate condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and expressed condolences to the Ukrainian people.
