The Basmanny District Court in Moscow has ruled to remand in custody Vladislav Struzhenkov (18), who set off an explosive device near a church-parish school at the premises of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Serpukhov convent just outside the country’s capital Moscow.
“The court granted the investigation’s motion for Vladislav Struzhenkov to be remanded in custody for a period of two months, until March 31, 2022,” Interfax-Religion quoted the court as saying.
It should be recalled that on December 13, 2021, Vladislav Struzhenkov detonated an improvised explosive device at the ROC Women’s Monastery near Moscow. Several people were injured in the incident, including teenagers.
The tragedy occurred during a morning prayer. Besides carrying a bomb, the attacker hoisted a machete. The motive for the crime could be the suspect’s hate toward school teachers and nuns against the background of personal hostility motives.
The Investigative Committee of Russia is investigating a criminal case on charges of attempted murder (Part 3 Article 30, Part 3 Article 105 of the Criminal Code) and illicit trafficking in explosives (Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code).
