U.S. Senator finds “inspiration” in Ecumenical Patriarch’s interfaith leadership

U.S. Senator Chris Coons noted the efforts of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew as regards interfaith leadership.

In a tweet, he stressed it “serves as inspiration to all of us.”

“It was an honor to meet His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew today and hear him speak about the urgency of addressing climate change. As we strive to develop global climate solutions, the Ecumenical Patriarch’s interfaith leadership serves as inspiration to us all,” Senator Coons tweeted.

The U.S. lawmaker had the opportunity to meet with the Ecumenical Patriarch during an official dinner hosted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

As Spiritual Front of Ukraine reported earlier, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I arrived in the United States on October 23 for a visit set to last until November 3.

On Sunday, he felt unwell following a long flight and amid busy schedule. The patriarch was admitted to a hospital at George Washington University. On Monday, the press service of the American Archdiocese announced that the Ecumenical Patriarch had been discharged from the clinic.

The Ecumenical Patriarch has already met with President Biden, State Secretary Anthony Blinken, and other senior officials.

Among other things, Bartholomew discussed Russia’s destructive efforts aimed against the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine which earlier obtained from Constantinople a tomos of autocephaly which affirmed its independence from Russia’s religious influence.
