The head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, has expressed his condolences to the victims of wildfires raging in Greece and across the Mediterranean.
“On behalf of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine and on my own behalf, I express my sincere condolences and support to the victims and evacuees of wildfires in Greece and other countries of the Mediterranean,” the statement said.
“In prayer, we ask the Lord to stop this natural disaster and care for those affected in the Greek islands, as well as in the Mediterranean and the Balkans. We believe that with God’s help the inhabitants of these lands will soon be able to return to a peaceful and calm life. “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble. He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them (Ps. 107: 19-20),” the head of the OCU concluded.
Northern Greece on Tuesday-Wednesday saw the highest air temperature in the country reaching 45 degrees Celsius.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, hot and dry weather is also being observed in Turkey, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Albania.
The heat wave led to massive wildfires.
