In 2023, the number of Christians across the world has increased significantly. For the first time, the figure exceeded 2.6 billion. Christianity is now growing at an annual rate of 1.18 percent, which translates to 30 million believers. At the global level, this marks a striking return to Christianity.
Every day the community of followers of Christ grows by 82,000 people. This is evidenced by the Global Christianity Research conducted by Boston religious scholars, reported the RCC in Ukraine.
Within the Catholic Church, the number of believers is growing mainly in Africa and America. In Western countries, their number has been decreasing for years. However, according to the latest data, the Catholic Church is growing much more slowly (0.93%) than the so-called Protestant “free churches”. They are experiencing a large influx of believers, seeing an annual growth of 1.79%. According to the study, the number of Christians is also growing in countries such as Japan and China, and Christianity is now the largest religious group in South Korea.
However, there is one serious challenge for Christianity. Islamic religious groups are growing even faster at 1.87%, and this year the number of Muslims exceeded 2 billion for the first time.
It should be recalled that 160 Christians were killed in Nigeria on Christmas.
