On August 15, the former Archbishop of Krakow (2005-2016) Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz led the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the coronation of the Icon of the Mother of God of Codena, Queen of Podlasie and Mother of Unity in the sanctuary in the Diocese of Siedlce. During the sermon, the hierarch, who had been the personal secretary of Pope John Paul II for 39 years, also mentioned Ukraine.

In particular, the cardinal considers the “idolatrous ideology of the Russian world” to be the cause of the war. According to Dziwisz, it takes away Ukrainians’ land, right to life, language and culture, sows death and destruction, and also creates fear of an even greater catastrophe.
“We cannot put up with what is happening in Europe… We must stop Cain’s hand,” the cardinal said.
The head of the UGCC His Beatitude Svyatoslav sent a letter of gratitude to the archbishop emeritus.
“I’d like to express my gratitude for the words delivered in the sermon on the 300th anniversary of the coronation of the Mother of God of Coden… Such an unequivocal statement of Your Eminence as a special envoy of the Holy Father during the ceremony, which gathered so many faithful, was for us a great surprise and a sign of great support that you gave through your authority to the Ukrainian people, which defends its independence and territorial integrity,” the head of the UGCC wrote.
It should be recalled that the Greek-Catholic bishop of Croatia said he was praying for the victory of Ukraine.
