Metropolitan Mykhailo of Lutsk and Volyn calls on the clergy and believers to sign a petition to deprive Muscovy of the right to sit at the United Nations Security Council.
This is stated on the website of the diocese.
As is known, the USSR was among the founders of the UN. As a nuclear power, it became a member of the Security Council with the right of veto. But after the collapse of the USSR, Muscovites never submitted a motion claiming they are the legal successors of the Soviet Union in the established order. Therefore, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN declares that the presence of the aggressor in this organization is illegitimate. Its presence in the UN Security Council is all the more illegal as the terrorist state has been abusing the right of veto.
The head of the diocese emphasizes: “in this sense, the UN is losing its functionality, because you can impose a veto and fail to solve anything. Our argument is as follows: the aggressor cannot have the right to veto, otherwise democratic principles will be distorted.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issued a Statement regarding the illegitimacy of the Russian Federation’s presence in the UN Security Council and the United Nations as a whole. However, the UN has still generally not gotten rid of its fear of Muscovy, so its support for the Ukrainian initiative is still insufficient.
Therefore, a large-scale information campaign “Get Russia out of the UN!” was launched. #unrussiaUN. The website www.kickrussiaout.info has an evidence base and other materials, and the online platform change.org has a corresponding petition on it. More than 250,000 people have already signed it.
Therefore, Bishop Mykhailo calls on all Orthodox believers to sign the petition.
