On November 10, a historic event took place in Vienna as ethnic Ukrainian Archimandrite Maksym (Rudyk) was ordained as Bishop. He became the vicar bishop of the Austrian Metropolitanate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
This is stated on the Facebook page of the Vienna UOC parish.
Bishop Maksym (Roman Rudko), 41, is a Lviv native, a graduate of the Lviv Theological Seminary. He received his theological education at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, where he also completed his master’s degree.
His church service is closely connected with Vienna. In 2018, in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, he accepted monasticism and ordained to the rank of deacon by Metropolitan Arseniy of Austria, Exarch of Hungary. In five years, in 2023, he received the rank of priest and archimandrite, and also appointed proto-single of the Austrian metropolis and the Hungarian exarchate.
The decision to elect Archimandrite Maksym as Vicar Bishop of the Austrian was made at the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on August 29, 2024.
