Multiple casualties as armed men attack synagogue, Christian church in Russia’s Dagestan

In the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala in the Russian region of Dagestan, a group of armed attackers opened fire at a synagogue and a church, and also engaged police officers, resulting in casualties.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Astra Telegram channel.

It is noted that the local Ministry of Internal Affairs says reported that in Makhachkala, unidentified perpetrators were wielding automatic weapons. As a result of the attack, the synagogue caught fire.

According to a report by the BBC, six police officers were killed and another 12 – wounded in the firefight.

The Astra channel claims nine people were killed, including seven policemen, and 25 persons were wounded.

An anti-terrorist operation has been launched in the region. The Russian Guard has deployed armored vehicles.

As reported, in late October 2023, a mob, driven by anti-Semitic calls, raided the Makhachkala airport where they made it to the tarmac in a search of “Jews” on board the plane that had arrived from Tel-Aviv. More than 20 people were injured in that incident.
