Zelensky thanks Ecumenical Patriarch for signing Peace Summit communiqué

On June 18, President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the Ecumenical Patriarch’s joining the final statement following the summit: “I am grateful to His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew for joining the communique and his constant support for our peacemaking efforts. There will be other such news – other additions to the communique. The team is working on it.”

The day before, the media drew attention to the fact that the signature of the Ecumenical Patriarchate appeared under the communiqué of the participants of the Peace Summit in Switzerland.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew did not comment on the signing, but spoke at the Peace Summit. In his address, he expressed support for “just and sustainable peace in sovereign Ukraine.”

In his address, Zelensky said that Ukraine had already started preparing the next steps after the Peace Summit. He added that he held a meeting with the diplomats regarding the confirmation of those responsible for the regions “in order to attract even more participants to joint work on the points of the Peace Formula.”

“Just like the inaugural Peace Summit held in Switzerland, the groups should become as inclusive as possible – so that different countries and leaders can express themselves. And, of course, we continue to work on supporting the communique of the first Summit,” he said.

It should be recalled that the Vatican did not support the declaration of the Peace Summit. At the same time, the Holy See said it fully supported the Summit’s conclusions.
