Serbian Church’s branch in U.S. complains about “persecution of Orthodoxy” in Ukraine, justifies Russian war

Following the diocesan meetings of the Novograchanic and Midwestern American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church held on April 12, an address was prepared, which touched on the topic of “persecution of Orthodox believers” by the Ukrainian authorities, branded as “Nazis”.

The appeal from the representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church expresses “deep indignation, discontent, and condemnation of the Kyiv regime, which for many years mercilessly persecutes the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which took away one of the greatest shrines of the Holy Rus – the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.”

Russia’s war in Ukraine is referred to as “bloodshed” while there is no mention of the fact that it was Russia that attacked the neighboring country.

“We pray to God that the bloodshed in Ukraine stops as soon as possible, and on this occasion we call on the US administration to stop supporting the Kyiv regime, which no longer hides its commitment to Nazi ideology,” the authors of the appeal emphasized, ignoring a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 , and the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

In the appeal, representatives of the Serbian Church fully support Russian lies about the situation in Ukraine and justify Russian crimes, because only accomplices of criminals could say something in favor of Nazism in Ukraine, while Russia operates in line with the Nazi ideology of the “Russian world” and kills Ukrainians in Ukraine only for wanting to live in their country and having their own Ukrainian language, history, and Church.
