The Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office forwarded to court an indictment against the metropolitan of one of the dioceses of the UOC (in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate) over aiding the aggressor state (Article 111-2 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
This was reported by the press service of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, on September 30, 2022, the clergyman, as an invited guest, attended a “solemn meeting” held in the Kremlin Hall in Moscow, at which “agreements” were signed on the accession of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
Apparently, this is about the sanctioned metropolitan of the UOC (MP)’s Luhansk Diocese, Panteleimon (Vasyl Povorozniuk), who cooperated with Russian invaders in the temporarily occupied city.
By his presence at the “event”, he supported Russia’s illegal annexation attempt targeting the occupied territories of Ukraine. By his example, the suspect encouraged the faithful from his diocese to also support the illegitimate decisions and actions of the aggressor state.
The pre-trial investigation was run by the SBU Office in Chernihiv region.
On December 11, 2022, personal sanctions were introduced against the UOC (MP) cleric in line with the president’s decree.
As reported earlier, the Security Service has gathered evidence on the sanctioned metropolitan of the UOC (MP)’s Luhansk Diocese, Panteleimon (Vasyl Povorozniuk), who has been cooperating with te Russian invaders in the temporarily captured city.
According to the inquiry, in September 2022, the priest arrived at the Kremlin to participate in the ceremony marking the so-called “accession” of the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
