Belarus bans Telegram channel of Ecumenical Patriarchate’s parish as “extremist”

By the decision of a Belarusian court in Baranovichi of October 20, 2023, the Telegram channel “Belarusian Orthodox Parish in Vilnius” was recognized as extremist.

The Christian Vision outlet also cites other cases of persecution of religious communities over alleged extremism.

The Belarusian Orthodox parish in Vilnius was founded by priests from Belarus, Georgiy Roy and Aleksandr Kukhta, who opposed the war against Ukraine and repression in Belarus. Because of their position, they were forced to flee country for Lithuania, where they were accepted into the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
