On August 23, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine congratulated Ukrainians on their National Flag Day, which is celebrated on this date. The head of OCU posted his greetings on his personal Facebook page.
“These colors resonate in the heart in a special way – with warmth, Homeland, dignity, respect, history, and future. Blue and yellow are not just the colors of our flag, they are symbols of our national identity, Ukrainian essence, indomitability, will, and – I believe – victory,” the head of the autocephalous Church wrote.
He also said that the state flag will be flown by the churches run by the OCU on holidays because the Ukrainian Church stands with the Ukrainian people. Also, according to Epifaniy, as a Church whose believers are patriots of their Homeland, the OCU honors and preserves national history.
“Our flag is a sign of the strength, glory, and achievements of our people. May, by God’s grace, it always rise against the background of a peaceful blue sky – over a free, happy, wealthy, and strong Ukraine! Happy holiday!” he wrote in conclusion.
It should be recalled that Metropolitan Epifaniy will serve in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on the Assumption.
