Metropolitan Oleksandr (Drabynko) of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine believes that under the leadership of Metropolitan Onufriy, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (in unity with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church) faces degradation and collapse.
He stated this in a comment for Espreso.
“What will happen to the UOC under the leadership of Metropolitan Onufriy? If even now, when there’s still a certain possibility to grab at least a lifeboat, when there are options to save at least what’s left of his spiritual reputation as the head of the church and to save his bishops and priests, (he fails to do it – ed.)” he said.
Metropolitan Oleksandr believes that the best option now would be to gather the hierarchal and local councils after Kirill’s speech, condemn Kirill’s decision, declare withdrawal, not distancing, as was the case in Feofania on May 27, 2022.
“Leave the Moscow Patriarchate, start honoring Patriarch Bartholomew and ask him to resolve their canonical status as of this day. If they are not to join the local OCU… they should take steps to finally save the remnants of the reputation that exists today,” he notes.
In addition, he added that if this does not happen, there will be degradation and collapse of such an institution as the UOC (MP).
“There will be no Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine at all, and I think it will happen in the near future,” the Metropolitan of Pereyaslav and Vishneve emphasized.
