The Church of Cyprus is officially entering a new era. Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos was elected as the new Archbishop of Cyprus, according to Orthodox Times.
The voting process took place after the end of the Divine Liturgy in the chapel of the Apostle Barnabas within the Holy Archdiocese.
After the completion of the voting and the election of the Archbishop, the bells of the old cathedral of Agios Ioannis are ringing joyfully.
According to information, Metropolitan of Paphos Georgios received 11 votes, Metropolitan of Limassol Athanasios received 4 votes, while there was also a blank ballot, which is believed to belong to the Metropolitan of Kykkos who didn’t support Athanasios despite his statement that he would do it.
