Ukraine’s ambassador to U.S. attends liturgy in Ukrainian cathedral in D.C.

Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Oksana Markarova attended the festive Divine Liturgy in the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andriy in Washington and congratulated the rector of the temple, Fr. Volodymyr Shtelyak.

She also expressed congratulations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the priesthood and the 10th anniversary of the election of His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony as head of the UOC of the USA, Ukrinform reports.

The ambassador noted that over 100 years since its foundation, the UOC of the USA has become an integral part of the life not only of the Ukrainian community in America, but also of the entire Ukrainian community across the globe. The UOC of the USA played a significant role in Ukraine achieving spiritual independence, and since the beginning of Russian armed aggression, it has become one of the outposts of assistance to Ukraine and Ukrainians.

“Together with believers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, we prayed for the soldiers who defend Ukraine, for the peace of the souls of all fallen defenders, for the entire Ukrainian people, for the victory of light over darkness,” Markarova added.
