The Pope says he could mediate in Moscow-Kyiv talks

Pope Francis addressed peace in Ukraine at the end of a general audience this week.

Pope Francis confirmed that the Vatican is ready to do everything possible to mediate and end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to the pontiff’s interview with La Stampa.

“The Holy See is ready to do everything possible to mediate and end the conflict in Ukraine,” he said.

When asked whether he believes in the possibility of reconciliation between Moscow and Kyiv, the pontiff urged everyone not to give up on the issue.

“But everyone must dedicate themselves to demilitarizing hearts, starting with their own, and then neutralizing, disarming violence. We should all be pacifists. To wish for peace, not just a truce, which can only serve to rearm. Real peace, which is the fruit of dialogue,” he said.
