Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has received First Lady Olena Zelenska of Ukraine. Photos from the Ukrainian delegation’s meeting with the Patriarch were published by Olena Zelenska on social media.
In the post, she reflects that in the Christian tradition, every person is considered to be the image of God. How does the Russian army feel about this – we see every day from its regular crimes in Ukraine. And the Russian church also supports military aggression, blessing murderers and executioners. Obviously, the Christian worldview, morals, and values have no real meaning to them.
Meanwhile, His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew calls the war against Ukraine nothing but diabolical, writes Zelenska.
“And he immediately took up such a position. Back in March, the Ecumenical Patriarchate sent the first humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and continues to do so. And its leader further testifies to the anti-human nature of the Russian war. His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew constantly prays for peace in Ukraine, taking care of our displaced people around the world. Together with the head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Andrii Sybiha, and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey Vasyl Bondar, I thanked the patriarch for this personally today, during a visit to Turkey. Unlike the invaders, we know what we are fighting for, we know that we are protecting those we love. Therefore, we will not lose our human face and values. This is the only way to gain a real victory,” the First Lady said.
