UOC of USA provides $6M in humanitarian aid to Ukraine

UOC of the USA via the Ministry of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (Silver Spring, MD) Partners with CitiHope Relief and Development Program and Provides $6 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

118 hospitals throughout Ukraine became recipients of the most necessary medical equipment and aid from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in the amount over $6,000,000.00.

That’s according to the UOC of the USA press service.

The delivery became possible due to the cooperation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA via the ministry of the Humanitarian Center of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and CitiHope Relief & Development.

The partnership between the UOC of the USA’s local Metropolitan area Washington, DC Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, under the leadership of Very Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Steliac enabled the Church to provide humanitarian relief to Ukraine, supporting the Ukrainian people impacted by the Russian war on Ukraine and bolstering Ukraine’s health care infrastructure by providing critically needed medicine and medical supplies.

In April 2022, CitiHope provided $6 million worth of medicine and medical supplies for distribution to hospitals and medical facilities in Ukraine through the auspices of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Metropolitan Antony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of USA stated: “We welcome the generous contributions from CitiHope and look forward to further collaborative actions. With God’s help, the challenges that our nation is facing are not insurmountable”.

St. Andrew ‘s Cathedral pastor, Very Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Steliac said, “CitiHope’s partnership with St. Andrew UOC will significantly increase the number of needed medicines and medical supplies reaching the vulnerable victims of war in Ukraine and will help Ukraine’s health care system address the needs of its citizens affected by the war and ultimately, will enable Ukraine to rebuild.”

His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine personally oversaw the transfer of medical supplies to Ukrainian hospitals. The Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko took part in the event, overseeing the process of distribution of aid, as it is being delivered directly to medical institutions of Ukraine.

The first part of the aid immediately after the event was sent to the Main Military Clinical Hospital and the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital of War Veterans. The humanitarian cargo included antibiotics, medicines for normalizing pressure, tachycardia, coronary artery diseases, for stomach problems, medical gowns and dressing materials for surgical departments, bandages, hemostatic agents, as well as diapers, baby food, stretchers, walkers, hygiene items and others.

“It is important for us that these medicines get directly to the hospitals where they are really needed, because the medicines are specific, and only doctors know how and to whom they need to be given in time. Therefore, may the Lord help us all to do good deeds during the war, and together, I am convinced, we will definitely win,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy during the event.

CitiHope is a humanitarian relief and development agency committed to serving vulnerable communities globally with access to essential medicines, food, and education.
