OCU spox: Key cause for war is Putin’s calculation that West won’t live up to defend Ukraine

Putin’s calculation that the global West will not be able to defend Ukraine and confront Russia is one of the key causes of the war he has unleashed.

The Russian president is convinced that relations with Moscow will be more important for Western leaders than “the former Soviet republic,” says OCU Archbishop Yevstratiy (Zorya) of Chernihiv and Nizhyn.

This is confidence, based on hundreds of real evidence pieces and examples, he wrote in his blog on social media.

“Putin doesn’t intend to attack China or the United States because he knows he will be repulsed.

And the attitude of many in the West toward Ukraine as Russia’s ‘historical sphere of interests,’ multiplied by an obvious desire to do away with decorative indignation and deep concern instead of decisive action, gave Putin the impression that Ukraine was a relatively easy game. Thus, the rhetoric about the ‘brotherly peoples’ of Russia and Ukraine who were ‘pitted against each other by politics (or even Putin personally)” voiced by leaders and institutions of the global West has become something they may have not wanted and do not fully grasp: Putin’s motivation to start a war.

Therefore, there is no doubt that the enemy, the man who started the war is Putin. That’s the same as Hitler, who was responsible for the outbreak of World War 2.

“But the blindness and short-sightedness of many Western leaders, who had failed to see Hitler/Putin’s intentions in due time, and whose desire for peace ‘at any cost’ only prompted the enemy to go to war, does not absolve these leaders of guilt. No wonder there is a saying about the road paved with good intentions…” wrote Zorya.
