Russian Orthodox Church compares Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to “surgical intervention”

The Moscow Patriarchate has finally announced its position on the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. On the ROC-controlled Spas TV, Anna Shafran, a show host, first spoke of the “horrors of Ukrainian history” in Vladimir Putin’s perspective before summing up: “As a result, a surgical intervention was required.”

This was reported by theologian Andrey Kuraev.

“Nothing unexpected here. One thing is interesting: will the Ukrainian bishops (with the UOC-MP – ed.) come to congratulate Patriarch Kirill on his 75th birthday in May (for the special operation “Bishops’ Council”)?” he wondered.

It should be recalled that on February 24, Russia launched a full-scale offensive on our land, but faced strong resistance on the part of Ukraine. Ahead of the full-blown attack, Russia had launched a series of fakes. As we reported earlier, over the four days of war, more than 5,000 Russian forces were killed in action in the Ukrainian territory.

Earlier, the ROC said that the “change of borders” will not affect unity of the ROC branch in Ukraine and the Moscow Patriarchate in Russia.

Instead of condemning the sin of war, the ROC leader congratulated Putin on Defender of the Fatherland Day. Meanwhile, the head of the OCU ironically commented on the greetings of the head of the ROC Kirill to the Russian leader. Moscow Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev) also spoke about “a common centuries-old history.” He said the Russian military had “chosen the right path” and once again supported Putin’s aggression against Ukraine.
