Metropolitan Mykhailo (Zinkevych) of Lutsk and Volyn commented on the status of the ROC in Ukraine. In an interview with Channel 12, he said that the ROinCU has been in a schism after the OCU was granted the tomos of autocephaly.
“This denomination is currently in a schism because the Ecumenical Patriarch recognized the existing autocephalous Church by giving the tomos to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. And the Moscow Patriarchate is gravitating further toward Moscow, so today they are schismatics and there are doubts about the legality of their operation here in Ukraine among the Orthodox Churches and the authorities who passed a law mandating that the title of this denomination be changed,” said Metropolitan Mikhail.
He added that the ROCU should be named according to its essence because it has a command center in Moscow.
The so-called UOC-MP should be referred to as the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
Metropolitan Mykhailo noted that about 120 parishes have already transitioned to the OCU’s Volyn diocese from the ROCinU.
