Important step towards The Hague tribunal: Russia officially acknowledges presence of its occupation forces in Ukraine

Putin’s regime inched a step closer to being tried by the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The authorities of the aggressor power have officially acknowledged presence of their armed forces in parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine.

According to Liga.Noviny, the Kirov District Court of Rostov-on-Don has handed down a verdict in a case, in which presence of Russian troops in Donbas and the stationing of Russian armed forces’ units in the occupied territories of Ukraine has been confirmed.

The news outlet published copies of excerpts from the court ruling sentencing a bribery suspect to five years in a penal colony.

It becomes evident from the case file that in 2019 the convict supplied food to Russian servicemen and gave a RUB 630,000 rubles to a sanitary official to turn a blind eye to food safety violations.

At the same time, the inquiry says the food was sent “to the military units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation stationed on the territory of the DPR and LPR.”

The case file also states that the Russian military servicemen are “on combat duty” in the territory formally controlled by the “DPR / LPR” terrorist organizations.

It is reported that the verdict was handed down by Judge Leonard Sholokhov on November 10, 2021. The full text is available on the official website of the Kirov court and the portal of Russian court judgments.

It should be recalled that in the late winter and early spring of 2014, the armed forces of the Russian Federation occupied Crimea before unleashing a war in Donbas. At the same time, Moscow has been denying participation in hostilities across Donetsk and Luhansk regions, claiming a “civil war” in the region.

The verdict of the Kirov District Court of Rostov-on-Don is an important publicly available document, which may serve as evidence of the contrary, certifying the fact of armed occupation of part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine by the Russian armed forces.
