A significant event took place on Phanar during the liturgy and evening service dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the patriarchal ministry of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Romanian Orthodox Church has taken another step toward recognizing the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
This is evidenced by the joint service of the hierarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Nifont of Trigoviste (Mihaece) with the hierarch of the OCU, Archbishop Nestor (Pysyk) of Ternopil and Kremenets.
In Orthodoxy, common worship can be performed only with the priests or bishops who are not schismatics or heretics. Thus, the Romanian Orthodox Church does not see any serious canonical obstacles to the recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the establishment of Eucharistic communion with it.
It is worth noting that Metropolitan Nifont of Targoviste was one of the participants in a non-canonical meeting in Amman, which aimed to promote Russian interests in the Ecumenical Orthodoxy. Taking this into account, it can be assumed that this Romanian hierarch changed his perspective on the initiatives of the Moscow Patriarchate.
Earlier, the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, named the Romanian Orthodox Church among those ready to recognize the OCU. He also named the Georgian, Bulgarian, and Albanian Churches.
