Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, received U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent, who currently serves as Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine.
At the meeting, the metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine briefed the U.S. diplomat about the progress of the local Ukrainian Orthodox Church development, interfaith and government-church relations, as well as preparations for the Ukraine visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, that’s according to the OCU official website.
“We appreciate the support that the United States has provided and continues to provide to Ukraine, especially as regards the need to counter Russian aggression. We are convinced that this will prevail because we have a common will to see Ukraine as a democratic, sovereign, and developed European state,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
Concluding the meeting, Metropolitan Epifaniy presented the guests with a book on the two years of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine’s life and development.
CDA Kent was accompanied by U.S. Embassy staffers, the report notes.
Deputy Head of the OCU External Church Relations Department, Archbishop Yevstratiy, also attended the meeting.
