Over more than two years of the large-scale Russian invasion, 77 parishes across the Volyn left the UOC (toin unity with the MP): 45 in 2022, 23 in 2023, and nine since the start of 2024.
Channel 12 reports this with reference to the regional authorities.
The process of the transition of churches to the OCU has not stopped, occurring in periodic bursts, says Metropolitan Mykhail of Lutsk and Volyn.
“Such surges will be either on a large scale or on a small scale, but the process does not stop. It is important that the process does not stop, and the phase of intensity will always be up and down, it will increase or decrease,” Bishop Mykhail said.
Parish leaders, wherever people have decided to switch, are not as willing as believers to unite with the OCU. Statistics show that only one out of 10 does so. Although, the bishop emphasizes, they have more than enough reasons to leave the UOC (MP).
