UOC temple’s abbot in Kharkiv accused of spying on Ukrainian forces for Russia

In Kharkiv, an indictment was forwarded to e court against a 44-year-old abbot of an UOC (MP) temple in Kharkiv. According to the prosecutor’s office, the clergyman transferred intelligence on the positions of the Ukrainian military to Russian invaders.

This was reported on April 7 by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The accused, a native of Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, is believed to have been handing the Russians sensitive data on the location of Ukraine’s military in Kharkiv region. He used a Telegram chat, sending Google Map references with descriptions, investigators say.

According to the prosecutor’s office, that intelligence could weaken the defense of the regional center and create conditions for launching targeted missile strikes on Ukraine’s defense positions.

The suspect will be tried in the Kharkiv District Court of Kharkiv region.

If convicted, he faces five to eight years in prison. The cleric is currently in custody.
