On September 26, 2024, an important event for the religious community of Zakarpattia took place in Uzhhorod. The St. Ilyinsk Parish in the village of Poroshkovo decided to withdraw from the UOC (in unity with the MP) and transition to the Mukachevo-Carpathian Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).
That’s according to the diocese’s press service.
The rector of the parish of All Saints of the Land in the Ukrainian village of Poroshkovo, priest Petro Ferenc, handed over to the bishop the decision of the parishioners of the Holy Prophet Ilya to join the OCU, as well as the registration documents for the newly built church.
Bishop Viktor Bede congratulated parishioners on the transition and approved a decision on their official admission to the Mukachevo-Carpathian Diocese. In addition, he gave his blessing to preserve the traditional celebration of two holidays in the parish – that of All Saints of the Ukrainian Land and the day of the holy prophet Ilya.
Priest Petro Ferenc was appointed rector of the newly united parish, and he was also relieved of his duties at the Cathedral Church of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called in Uzhhorod.
This transition marks another important step in strengthening the presence of the OCU in Zakarpattia.
It should be recalled that the Khmelnytskyi court ordered the UOC (MP) to vacate the church premises and grant the OCU parish access to the building.
