UGCC head on Bartholomew’s foreword: this heals historical wounds between Churches

The head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav, expressed his gratitude to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for his support as the latter wrote the foreword to the Polish edition of Sviatoslav’s daily addresses dedicated to the first year of the full-scale war in Ukraine.

This is reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

In his video address, His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted: “I took this as a sign of great support.” He also emphasized the importance of inter-church and inter-religious cooperation in Ukraine, especially at the present time:

“Ecumenical dialogue heals the wounds that we may have inflicted on each other over the centuries and that sometimes hurt and are an obstacle so that we can pray together and celebrate the Divine Liturgy at one throne.”

The book “Message of Peace” (“Orędzia pokoju”) was published by the publishing house “Gaudium” in Lublin. In his foreword, Patriarch Bartholomew described the publication as “an 800-page chronicle of 12 months of a terrible war by the Primate of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, which he wrote down during the unbreakable years of 2022 and 2023.”

The head of the UGCC expressed “deep gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew for the gesture of attention to our Church and repeated expressions of support for the suffering Ukrainian people, who are defending their right to exist in the struggle.”
