Work underway on returning Pochaiv, Sviatohirsk lavras to government control

The Acting Ministry of Culture and Information Policy is working to ensure that the Pochaiv and Sviatohirsk lavras, as well as many other sites, are managed by the state.

This was stated by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy, Rostyslav Karandeiev, who spoke with Ukrinform.

“Today, we carry out major work in both the Pochaiv and Sviatohirsk Lavras, and as regards other sites, including the Ancient Chernihiv Reserve, a large part of which was also used by the diocese of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate). We are working on returning these sites to the state administration,” said Karandeiev.

Government inspection of property exposed numerous violations, inconsistencies as to the terms of use, and distortion of museum sites and buildings themselves.

“In particular, the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Chernihiv was used sloppily, and we are forced to carry out huge works there to restore the interior decoration, frescoes, etc.,” said the Acting Minister.

According to his conviction, the government gives a proper assessment of the actions of individual clerics and parishes, who were openly involved in aiding and abetting the enemy and “did everything to create favorable conditions for the ‘Russian world’ to arrive here and that Russian soldiers be perceived as ‘liberators’”.

He emphasized that the tasks set before the ministry to purge the cultural domain of imperial narratives, ridding it of any manifestations of colonial policy are being successfully implemented.
