The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Humanitarian and Information Policy has completed work on a draft law that will regulate the activities of religious organizations affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church.
This was reported by Yevhenia Kravchuk, members of the profile Parliamentary Committee. The table with amendments and proposals to the draft law has already been published on the parliament’s website.
According to Kravchuk, the draft law will be considered by the Conciliation Council of the Verkhovna Rada as soon as possible. She expressed hope that the vote on the bill could take place as early as May or June.
“The draft law does not concern freedom of religion, but national security, so we cannot delay its adoption,” the MP emphasized.
Previously, the passing of the bill at first reading caused mixed reactions and concern from influential international organizations regarding possible restrictions on religious freedoms in Ukraine.
