Religious organizations in U.S. urge Russian Patriarch to stop supporting war

Leaders of a number of religious organizations in the United States have condemned Russian war crimes in Ukraine – attacks on peaceful cities and civil infrastructure.

Also, the leaders of the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches in a joint appeal called on the head of the Russian Orthodox Church to stop supporting the Kremlin, Voice of America reports.

“We beseech the religious leaders of Russia, especially Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, to stop supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine and to urge President Putin to halt terror attacks aimed at innocent civilians,” the appeal reads.

At the same time, church leaders called on the US government and American society to “utilize all available just means to protect Ukraine and its people from this brutal aggression.”

As reported by the Voice of America, American media reported that the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad is gaining followers in the United States — not among Russian immigrants, but among Americans who are attracted by the emphasis on “traditional values.”

Researchers say that along with the “Orthodox tradition” the latest converts also accept the worldview preached by Russian President Vladimir Putin. And the American priests who preach the Russian tradition, together with it, convince their congregation on social media that supposedly not Moscow, but Washington is to blame for the war in Ukraine.

Despite abundant evidence and warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, the Kremlin continues to deny allegations of targeted attacks against civilians and infrastructure

In recent days, Russia has continued intensified attacks on Ukrainian cities. Kyiv was hit by ballistic missiles for the third time in five days, and in Kharkiv, Russia’s most massive energy attack in recent times resulted in a complete blackout.

We will remind you that the Russian army bombed the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgorod region.
