Germany’s top diplomat on Pope’s “white flag” remark: I wonder what he was thinking

The remark by Pope Francis, who said Ukraine should have “the courage of the white flag” for peace negotiations with the Russian Federation, did not resonate well. This is the opinion of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock.

That’s according to Europeiska Pravda referring to Tagesschau.

“I really wonder what he was thinking. I don’t understand,” said the German minister.

Dwelling on the topic of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Baerbock noted that some things can be understood only by seeing them with one’s own eyes.

“I ask myself: where is the Pope? The Pope should know about this,” she emphasized. The minister emphasized that the whole world must gather the courage to stand on the side of the people of Ukraine and do everything possible so that Ukraine can defend itself.

Baerbock added that if there was even a minimal chance that the Russian regime would show readiness for negotiations, “then the whole world would be ready for them.” “Unfortunately, we see the opposite every day,” added the German Foreign Minister.
