Ukraine’s envoy to Vatican plans to discuss with Pope his latest remark regarding war in Ukraine

Ambassador of Ukraine to the Holy See, Andriy Yurash, announced plans to discuss the latest remarks of Pope Francis regarding the need for negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation “under a white flag”.

He explained what things he would like to convey to the Pope during a personal meeting.

“It is worth informing the Pope about several points that are basic to us. It is worth appealing to Russia, not Ukraine. Ukraine is a victim. Ukraine is a state that cannot under any circumstances accept this model of raising a ‘white flag’, because for us it is a matter of life and death, our identity. We will take turns explaining and talking to the Pope about all these things,” the ambassador said in a comment to Radio Svoboda.

Yurash explained that the Pope’s latest remarks do not express the Vatican’s position, but the Pope’s personal views.

The Vatican commented on the Pope’s remark, stating that he did not mean the surrender of Ukraine by saying the words about the white flag.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that Ukrainians live, die, and win under the blue and yellow flag, and will not fly any other flags. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also invited the Pope to make an Apostolic visit to Ukraine.
