Kreminna parish opts for compromise: Staying with UOC (MP) but attending services in Ukrainian

More than 200 people gathered in the cultural hub of Kreminna in Khmelnytskyi region. On the agenda was the issue of the subordination of the local church. Among those present were priests from the OCU, as well as the abbot and parishioners of the UOC (in unity with the MP). Believers deny their church’s affiliation to the aggressor state. They say they pray for the soldiers and love their country, TV7+ reports.

Residents say the church was built more than 30 years ago. And every resident of the village took part in its construction in one way or another. Therefore, the issue of the transition should be decided in a balanced and civilized manner.

However, there was no calm discussion as supporters of the MP stressed that the church is indeed Ukrainian, so no transition is needed.

Neither the facts nor what is currently happening in the country convinced the church’s parishioners that the transition is not a mere formality.

The priest of the local church, who enjoys the support of both the supporters of the OCU and the supporters of the UOC (MP), could not make a willful decision. He says he does not want any discord and fighting in the village.

Ultimately, the transition never took place. According to voting results, the decision to remain with the UOC (MP) was in a 15-vote majority. However, the parish agreed to a compromise – services will be held in Ukrainian language.
