On November 23, Bishop Yefrem of Vasylkiv with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine led a prayer for the victims of the Holodomor. The prayer service was held in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra with the participation of officials and laity.
“The Holodomor of 1932-1933 was a deliberate act of genocide committed by the obsessed Stalinist regime against the Ukrainian people. It was a crime that millions of Ukrainians became victims of just because they were Ukrainians. And the Holodomor is not just a tragedy for Ukraine. This is also a warning about what will happen if we lose our freedom,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He noted that many governments and parliaments have already recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.
“Today’s Russian aggression has a direct connection with the events that occurred 90 years ago. Aggression on the part of the Russian Federation is accompanied by grave war crimes and destruction. And the enemy is again weaponizing hunger, blocking the export of Ukrainian grain and destroying our port infrastructure. Our generation must finally stop the aggressor and the genocide of the Ukrainian people,” concluded Stefanchuk.
