On August 10, an interview with Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, was published by Ukrainian Pravda.
Among other things, the official mentioned the church situation in the country. In particular, he explained why the government addressed the issue of the UOC (MP) so late.
“As for the situation related to the church, keep in mind that this is a very difficult issue. And when they (representatives of the UOC (MP) – ed.) crossed the line after the war started, when some of them actually supported this war instead of condemning this war, you know, decisions were made instantly. Therefore, no one should accuse us that we, allegedly, did not do anything about that,” Danilov said.
He also noted that the NSDC had studied various documents that confirmed the UOC being part of the Moscow Patriarchate.
It should be recalled that earlier Oleksiy Danilov warned of Russia being likely to use its church in Ukraine to destabilize the domestic political situation.
