To destabilize situation, Russia could employ its church in Ukraine – NSDC secretary

The Russian Federation is trying to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, using all possible resources, including religious institutions.

This was reported by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov. According to him, this has been especially visible over the last two weeks.

“Huge denigration campaigns are underway, special operations are underway in the information space not only on the territory of our country, but also in the West,” he emphasized, without clarifying what exactly he meant.

Danilov stressed that the Russians cannot defeat Ukraine on the battlefield, so they are trying to destabilize the situation within the country. He noted that the Russian Federation has been trying to divide Ukraine into parts for years.

“Unfortunately, religious institutions subordinate to the Russian Federation are involved,” the NSDC secretary emphasized.

Danilov expressed regret over the fact that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had not yet passed a law concerning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

“It is a shame that the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have not yet passed laws that would put an end to the issue. This must be done because if we leave this problem unresolved, it is only a matter of time until they involve people, some in an open and some in a clandestine format, to achieve their goal,” the NSDC secretary emphasized.

To a clarifying question of whether it is about banning the UOC-MP, Danilov answered that it is about compliance of its activities with Ukraine’s laws and Constitution.

“This is how it should be interpreted. We do not ban anyone, we say that if you have a decision-making center in Moscow, then keep in mind that this will not be allowed at a time when we are at war with Russia,” he emphasized.
