Oleksandr Tkachenko, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy, states that the Church’s decision to switch to the New Julian calendar requires amendments to Ukraine’s legislation on official public holidays.
That’s according to Interfax-religion.
“Today we spoke with fellow deputies about the fact that the decision of our churches also poses challenges to us regarding the change of official holidays,” Tkachenko said on the air of the national telethon.
The minister noted that relevant legislative proposals will be developed in the near future.
As reported, on May 24, the Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) approved the transition to the New Julian liturgical calendar from September 1, 2023.
On February 6, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) announced the same move from September 1, 2023.
