Metropolitan Epifaniy, Mike Pompeo visit Ukraine’s wounded soldiers

This week, Metropolitan Epifaniy Kyiv and All Ukraine and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Ukraine’s defenders of Ukraine who had been injured on the battlefield of the Russo-Ukrainian war and are currently undergoing rehabilitation in one of Kyiv’s medical facilities.

Wounded servicemen gladly met the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and a distinguished guest from the United States of America, who arrived with a delegation to Kyiv, reports the OCU press service.

First of all, the Metropolitan thanked the heroes for defending their country and reaffirmed his firm belief in Ukraine’s victory.

“Thanks to your heroic feat and thanks to the support of our foreign friends, we now have freedom and a unified Ukrainian state. The truth is on our side, and where there is truth there is God and there is always victory. We constantly pray for you and I wish that the Lord continues to give strength and patience to go to our complete victory. May the Lord continue to bless our Ukraine and the United States of America, all people of good will. Glory to Ukraine!” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.

After talking with defenders, Metropolitan Epifaniy met with former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the delegation that visited Kyiv along his side. Archpriest Oleh Sknar, an officer with the Military Chaplaincy Service, also took part in the meeting.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy expressed his gratitude to Mr. Pompeo, whom he knows personally, and in his person to the American people who are helping Ukrainians in this difficult time.

For his work for the good of Ukraine and protection of religious freedom, the Primate decorated Mike Pompeo with the highest award – the Cross of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, and the members of the American delegation – with the Cross of Freedom medals.

“The spirit has the ability to defeat even the most modern weapons. We resisted and I am convinced that we mentally won. The world must preserve the order on which international relations and security architecture are built. And we feel the support from the United States of America and we’re glad to have this bipartisan backing. Therefore, we are confident in the victory of truth and democracy. Evil is always defeated,” Metropolitan Epifaniy emphasized.

The head of the OCU also discussed with the American delegation other issues of common interest.
