The notorious representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova issued a bizarre explanation as to why the UOC(MP) monks are being evicted from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Speaking at a press briefing, Zakharova stated that the UOC (MP) allegedly became “a threat to the Kyiv regime.” Commenting on the grounds for the eviction of the monks from the Lavra, Zakharova switched to the “diplomatic jargon” traditional for Russia’s MFA, reports TSN.
“Why? Probably, as they say, if we recall the terminology of the middle of the 20th century, they did not make a Nazi salute, did not pledge their allegiance to criminals, did not deviate from what was handed down to them by their ancestors as a testament,” said Zakharova.
It should be recalled that the Synod of the UOC (MP) called for “steadfast standing in the faith”, albeit without discord. Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid) also called on believers to refrain from “revolution and confrontation” over the Lavra issue. Meanwhile, the minister of culture of Ukraine believes monastic life should continue in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
