Russian President Vladimir Putin could stop the war with Ukraine by withdrawing troops and ceasing fire, and then start negotiating long-term agreements.
This was stated by the Top Hierarch of the Church of England, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury, who spoke with journalists alongside Pope Francis during the flight from South Sudan to Italy, Vatican News reports.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, which he visited late last year, the Archbishop of Canterbury said he had nothing to add other than that “an end to this war is within the hands of President Putin. He could end it with withdrawal and ceasefire and then negotiations about long-term settlement.”
He also expressed his solidarity with the pontiff’s words about the need not to forget about other wars, mentioning, in particular, the situation in Nigeria.
